counsellor and psychotherapist Castle Hill

I am a warm, non-judgemental, supportive listener who aims to create a space in which you feel comfortable about sharing your unique story, expressing your feelings, and dealing with difficult emotions like uncertainty, sadness, resentment, anger, guilt, jealousy, and fear.

I do not not consider myself an “expert” who sets out to diagnose you or “fix” you. The therapeutic process will engage you in a process of self-discovery. I will collaborate with you to explore the pain and suffering you are experiencing. Together you can discuss your dilemmas, possibilities and choices, and find your inner strengths and resilience.

I can help you to find a way through your problems, challenges and obstacles, in alignment with your particular values, beliefs and worldview.

Aims of  psychotherapy and counselling with me include improving your psychological wellbeing, helping you to gain insights into yourself and your experiences, helping you move towards the life you would like for yourself, or helping you come to terms with the limitations imposed by your present situation.

One of the reasons I decided to become a counsellor and psychotherapist is that I am the “survivor” of a life-threatening illness. I know what it is like to feel overwhelmed and very anxious! I have had personal experiences with fear and loss and grief. These experiences led me to think about what it means to live a meaningful life, about the importance of the loving and caring relationships in my life, about the fragility of our existence and the importance of the choices we make during our lives.

I am a compassionate  psychotherapist who can support people through dark times and help them to move forwards. Existential themes such as death anxiety, meaning and purpose, and choice resonate with me.

I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, employing a number of different approaches depending on your needs. Of prime importance is the professional, trusting and confidential relationship I build with you. Research shows that the greatest influence on therapeutic outcome is the relationship between the client and the therapist. Each client is unique as is each therapeutic encounter.

FAQ: What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy? According to the Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia (PACFA) counselling and psychotherapy overlap considerably. Counselling is more likely to concentrate on specific problems, adjustment to  changes in life and fostering the wellbeing of the client. On the other hand psychotherapy may involve restructuring the client’s self and the development of the client’s insight.
