  • Do you often feel anxious or fearful?
  • Do you worry a lot?
  • Do you often feel nervous or on edge?
  • Do you have problems relaxing?
  • Are you often restless or irritable?
  • Do you fear something bad happening?

Anxiety can be very debilitating and affect your quality of living. Sometimes feelings of anxiety can be terrifying; the feelings of anxiety and fear escalate into a panic attack. If you are suffering from anxiety then joining one of my anxiety support groups could be very helpful.

Only people who have experienced high anxiety and/or panic feelings can really understand your fear and suffering.

I lead anxiety support groups in Castle Hill and also in Wahroonga.

  • In  anxiety support groups members can share their experiences and be understood. Members can also share ways of coping and managing anxiety and panicky feelings.
  • If members wish, I can provide up-to-date information on anxiety and its management and teach you some techniques for dealing with anxiety e.g visualization, challenging negative thoughts, methods of relaxation and so on.
  • If you can learn to reduce your level of anxiety and better manage it then your quality of life will be greatly improved.

Helen’s story

I have  had rewarding experiences facilitating anxiety support groups for clients managing anxiety. In one anxiety support group, a client who we shall call “Helen” was experiencing high levels of social anxiety. She was frightened, and her world had become very small as she avoided other people. However, she gradually shared her story with others in the group and learnt some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques. Her social world grew as she re-engaged with people and she was able to begin planning her continuing education. Participating in a series of anxiety support group sessions improved Helen’s quality of life.

  • My anxiety support group sessions are held weekly and are one and a half hours in length. Each group has between 4 and 8 members. Members will be seated in comfortable chairs and refreshments will be provided.
  • Your need for confidentiality is considered paramount so one of the rules for group members is that whatever is said within the support group stays within the group.

Vivienne Morrow, group leader

I will create a safe, confidential space in which you can share your experiences with other anxiety support group members. Peer support can be very helpful. The activities of the support group will depend in part on the wishes of the participants. For example, if members would like to learn more about anxiety and anxiety disorders then I can provide trustworthy, authoritative sources. Perhaps members will be interested in learning some coping strategies such as relaxation and visualization. Come along with your ideas about what you would like to gain from participation in the anxiety support group.

Who can join the anxiety support groups?

  • clients who are experiencing anxiety and/or panic attacks or simply “feel anxious” or “feel worried” or “feel afraid”. Some clients may also be experiencing depression.
  • clients who have been diagnosed with any of the following: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia, Social Phobia, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
  • note that I will not make any diagnoses; that is the role of a psychiatrist.
  • note also that you do not need a referral to join the anxiety support  group.
